Our Library Is The Place!

Friends of the Stirling Road Branch Library

Dear Friends,

I'm kvelling and there's no other word that can express my excitement! I am so pleased to inform you that our Friends Group, in partnership with The Music Club of Hollywood, will bring Michael Stock, the much admired WLRN broadcaster and Florida's renowned folk music expert, to our branch for a four part series on Folk Music. How did we manage this coup? It took some connections, some ingenuity, some skill, and some perseverance but we did it!! I want to thank all of you baby boomers and all of you hipsters who asked us to do a folk music series and I know that you never dreamed we would even try to get Michael to our branch but we did!! Mark your calendars now for May 10, May 24, June 7 and June 21. We are bringing Michael to our library and his lectures are free and open to the public, thanks to you and your support of the library!

I'm pleased to inform you that Dr. Cohen will do a new series beginning April 7 and continuing on April 14, April 28, May 5 and May 12 on "The World as Seen Through the Eyes of Artists". She will cover the following topics:

1. The Aztec’s Concept of the World
2. View of the New World in European Art
3. The Story of Adam and Eve Interpreted in Art
4. Leonardo Da Vinci and his Vision
5. The Universe of the Sistine Chapel

Please note, Walter Ladden's classical music presentations are over for the winter. We will keep you posted on when his series will begin again.

National Library Week is in April and our branch will celebrate on Tuesday, April 12th, from 3-5 pm. We are still planning on ways to celebrate and we welcome your suggestions but we know food, drinks, and books will be involved.. Please plan to celebrate with us on that day.

Our Facebook page features pictures from our most recent Coloring For Adult evening. Go check it out and give us a "Like" if you haven't already.
We have such creative folks in our neighborhood!

Finally, I will send out information about our upcoming event with Dr. Judith Etzion in partnership with the Posnack JCC in my next communication. We also have exciting news about a new partnership with the Art and Cultural Center of Hollywood.
Come back to the site often to stay abreast of all the new and exciting things going on at our fabulous library!

Wishing you all the best!

If you complete your design, post a picture of it to our Facebook page to share your talents. Next Friday, we will randomly choose one entry to receive a free book of your choosing from our book room. Coloring and a free read?! What are you waiting, for?
