Empowerment through Personal Safety: Practical Steps to Keep Yourself and Your Home Safe

This series is designed and facilitated by Gina Aud, a Hollywood police officer for over 18 years. Prior to her service with police department, Gina served as the Director of Fitness at the University of South Florida.

Sunday, March 17 at 11: 30 am. How Not to Be a Victim: Developing Situational Awareness
This session will cover how to protect your person in a variety of situations. Gina will provide tips from a police officer’s perspective.  Participants will learn how to avoid being a target through awareness skills, sounds, and body language. Gina will also teach basic self-defense techniques that are simple and effective.

Sunday, March 24 at 11:30 am. How to Keep Your Home Safe.
Gina will review environmental design techniques to make your home safe (alarm systems, doorbell devices, etc.) and will discuss what to do in different situations based on her experience as a police officer. Gina will emphasize many easy and practical things that participants can do to help protect their homes.

Sunday, April 7 at 11:30 am. Basics of Self Defense: A Special Seminar for Girls and Women
Gina will teach self-defense moves designed specifically for girls and women to provide simple, intuitive tactics to protect yourself when your safety is threatened. Wear comfortable clothes.

All session are free and open to the public, thanks to the Friends of the Stirling Road Library. Sessions are held at the library  3151 Stirling Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312
